Dive Sites in Koh Samui
Sail Rock
As one of the most famous dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand, this location features a prominent pinnacle and the iconic Chimney swim-through, making it a prime spot for scuba diving and underwater exploration. Depths range from 5 to 40 meters, with generally mild to moderate currents. Divers can expect to see impressive schools of barracuda, trevally, batfish, and even the occasional whale shark. This site is recommended for Open Water Divers and above.
Chunphon Pinnacle
A granite pinnacle rising from about 35m to 14m below the surface, located among the impressive Koh Samui dive sites. Here, currents can vary from calm to strong, making it ideal for scuba diving and underwater exploration. It's renowned for massive schools of fusiliers, trevally, barracuda, groupers, and even seasonal sightings of whale sharks. This spot is best suited for Advanced Open Water Divers.
Southwest Pinnacle
A group of submerged pinnacles at Koh Samui dive sites rises from depths of around 30m to 5m. Currents can be moderate, and visibility is often excellent, making it perfect for underwater exploration. Expect to encounter schools of barracuda, snapper, trevally, and batfish, with possible sightings of whale sharks. This site is recommended for Advanced Open Water Divers looking for an exciting scuba diving experience.
Shark Island
This dramatic rocky formation at Koh Samui dive sites presents a diverse underwater topography ideal for scuba diving. Depths range from 5–35m, with occasional moderate currents enhancing the excitement of underwater exploration. Common sightings include butterflyfish, angelfish, reef fish, stingrays, and occasionally turtles, making it suitable for Open Water Divers with comfortable buoyancy control.
Mango Bay
A sheltered bay on Koh Tao’s northern coast, this location is well-known among Koh Samui dive sites for its calm conditions and shallow coral reefs. With depths ranging from 2–18m and little to no current, it’s ideal for scuba diving training and relaxed fun dives. Common marine life includes butterflyfish, parrotfish, rabbitfish, blue-spotted stingrays, and occasional turtles, making it a perfect spot for underwater exploration. This area is suitable for beginners, Open Water students, certified divers, and snorkelers alike.
Tanote Bay
This sheltered bay, one of the top Koh Samui dive sites, features sandy areas, coral patches, and artificial structures, making it perfect for scuba diving and underwater exploration. The depths range from 3 to 18 meters with minimal current, and you'll encounter common marine life such as butterflyfish, parrotfish, groupers, stingrays, large schools of fusiliers, and even occasional turtles. This spot is particularly ideal for beginners and Open Water Divers.
Shark Bay
This shallow bay, renowned among Koh Samui dive sites, is famous for blacktip reef shark encounters. With depths ranging from 2–12m and generally calm conditions, it provides an excellent setting for scuba diving and underwater exploration. Divers and snorkelers frequently spot both juvenile and adult blacktip reef sharks, as well as turtles and vibrant tropical reef fish. It's an ideal location for beginners, Open Water Divers, and snorkelers alike.
Twins
One of Koh Tao’s most popular dive sites for scuba diving and underwater exploration, this location features depths ranging from 5–18m with typically calm conditions and minimal current. Here, you can expect to see a variety of marine life, including butterflyfish, triggerfish, moray eels, blue-spotted stingrays, and nudibranchs. It's an ideal spot for Open Water students and certified divers of all levels.
White Rock
This large reef system, located among popular Koh Samui dive sites, features depths ranging from 6 to 22 meters. The conditions are typically calm with mild currents, making it ideal for scuba diving and underwater exploration. You'll find an array of marine life here, including pufferfish, moray eels, triggerfish, barracuda, turtles, and the occasional blacktip reef sharks. This site is suitable for Open Water Divers and above.
Wrecks
A sunken vessel provides an exciting artificial reef environment at one of the popular Koh Samui dive sites. Currently, there are three shipwrecks around Koh Tao, with typical depths ranging from 13–30m and featuring mild to moderate currents. These wrecks attract a variety of marine life, including lionfish, groupers, barracuda, batfish, and many other reef species, making it a hotspot for scuba diving and underwater exploration. This site is suitable for Advanced Open Water Divers, as wreck penetration requires specialized training.
